What the Lipid Profile measures
A lipid profile measures the fats carried in the blood. Total cholesterol is the overall amount. LDL cholesterol is the main type that can build up in the walls of arteries, so it is usually the number doctors focus on when judging heart and stroke risk; in this panel it is calculated from the other values. HDL cholesterol helps carry cholesterol away from the arteries, so higher values are generally better. Triglycerides are another kind of fat that rises after meals and with excess weight, alcohol and uncontrolled diabetes. VLDL, non-HDL cholesterol and the ratios between these values give the doctor a fuller picture. High cholesterol usually causes no symptoms, which is why it is checked in routine health check-ups and regularly in people with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of early heart disease. The numbers are read alongside age, blood pressure, smoking and other risk factors; there is no single target that suits everyone.
Price: the Lipid Profile costs ₹440 at Pure Bliss (MRP ₹550), with the sample collected at our Action Area 2, New Town centre or at your home.

- Monitoring of cholesterol-lowering treatment
How to prepare, the sample, and when to expect the report
Preparation
Fast for 10 to 12 hours before the sample; plain water is allowed, but no tea, coffee or milk. An early morning slot makes this easier. Avoid alcohol and very fatty meals the day before. Keep taking prescribed medicines unless your doctor says otherwise.
Sample
Blood, from a vein in the arm (serum).
Reporting time
Morning samples are reported the same day; later samples by the next day.
Reading the result
Reference ranges differ between laboratories, so your report lists the laboratory’s own range beside each value. A result outside the range does not always mean illness; ask your doctor to explain it.
