Random Blood Sugar Test (RBS) in New Town, Kolkata
At Pure Bliss Healthcare Centre, Action Area 2, New Town.
What the Random Blood Sugar Test (RBS) measures
A random blood sugar test measures the glucose in your blood at any time of day, whatever and whenever you last ate. It is a quick check when symptoms suggest a high or low sugar, at a first visit, or when fasting is not practical. Because the value depends on your last meal, a single random result has limits. A normal random sugar does not rule out diabetes, and a raised one usually needs confirming with a fasting sugar or HbA1c. The exception recognised by diabetes guidelines is a random glucose of 200 mg/dL or more together with classic symptoms such as marked thirst, passing large amounts of urine and weight loss, which a doctor can treat as diagnostic. Random sugar is also used to check a reading from a home glucometer against a laboratory method, and in people with known diabetes who feel unwell. If you have symptoms of a very high or very low sugar, such as confusion, drowsiness, heavy sweating or vomiting, seek medical care urgently rather than waiting for a routine test.
Price: the Random Blood Sugar Test (RBS) costs ₹72 at Pure Bliss (MRP ₹90), with the sample collected at our Action Area 2, New Town centre or at your home.

Random Blood Sugar Test (RBS) — common questions
Booking, preparation and reporting for the Random Blood Sugar Test (RBS) at Action Area 2, New Town.
What is the difference between random and post-meal (PP) sugar?
A post-prandial sugar is taken a set time, usually two hours, after a meal, so results can be compared between visits. A random sugar is taken whenever you arrive, without timing.
Does a normal random sugar mean I do not have diabetes?
Not necessarily. If your doctor suspects diabetes, a fasting sugar or HbA1c gives a clearer answer.
Why is my glucometer reading different from the lab result?
Home meters use finger-prick blood and are less precise than laboratory methods, so some difference is expected. A large or repeated difference is worth showing to your doctor.
