How to prepare, and when to expect the report
Preparation
- Fast for 10 to 12 hours before the sample; plain water is allowed, but no tea, coffee or milk. An early morning slot makes this easiest. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before.
- Take regular medicines with water unless your doctor says otherwise; diabetes medicines are usually taken after the sample, with breakfast.
- If you take thyroxine, give the sample first and take the tablet afterwards. Stop biotin supplements for 48 hours beforehand, as biotin can interfere with hormone tests.

What does the CA-125 test show?
CA-125 is a protein that can be raised in ovarian cancer, but also in harmless conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis and liver disease. It is not reliable as a screening test on its own. A raised value needs review by a gynaecologist, usually with an ultrasound, and a normal value does not rule out disease.
What is not included in this package?
It does not include HbA1c, urine tests, vitamin D or vitamin B12. If your doctor wants any of these, add them when booking.
