TSH Test (Ultrasensitive) in New Town, Kolkata
At Pure Bliss Healthcare Centre, Action Area 2, New Town.
What the TSH Test (Ultrasensitive) measures
An ultrasensitive TSH test measures thyroid stimulating hormone, the pituitary signal that tells the thyroid gland how hard to work. It is the single most useful first-line thyroid test: because the pituitary responds to small shifts in circulating thyroid hormone, TSH moves before T3 and T4 leave their normal range, so it detects an underactive or overactive thyroid earlier than measuring the hormones alone. "Ultrasensitive" refers to the assay being able to resolve very low readings, which is what distinguishes a genuinely suppressed TSH in hyperthyroidism from one merely at the low end of normal. It is the usual choice for routine screening, for annual monitoring once a thyroxine dose is settled, and as the starting point when symptoms are vague. If the TSH comes back outside the expected range, your doctor will normally follow it with a full profile rather than treat on the single value.

TSH Test (Ultrasensitive) — common questions
Booking, preparation and reporting for the TSH Test (Ultrasensitive) at Action Area 2, New Town.
Is TSH alone enough, or should I book the full profile?
For screening in someone with no known thyroid disease, TSH alone is usually sufficient and your doctor can add T3 and T4 if it comes back abnormal. If you are pregnant, already on treatment, or have persistent symptoms, book the full profile.
Why does the time of day matter?
TSH peaks overnight and falls through the afternoon. A consistent morning sample makes results comparable when you are being monitored over months.
Can illness or stress change my TSH?
Yes, significant acute illness can temporarily alter thyroid readings. If you are unwell with something else, it is usually better to wait until you have recovered unless your doctor wants the test now.
