HBsAg Test (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) in New Town, Kolkata

At Pure Bliss Healthcare Centre, Action Area 2, New Town.

What the HBsAg Test (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) measures

HBsAg is a protein on the surface of the hepatitis B virus. Finding it in the blood means the virus is present, either as a recent infection or, if it persists for more than six months, as a long-term (chronic) infection. This is a rapid card test, used for screening. A reactive result needs confirmation with a laboratory method and further hepatitis B tests, and a doctor’s assessment, before any conclusion is drawn. A non-reactive result means the antigen was not detected, but a very recent infection can be missed in the weeks after exposure, so a doctor may advise a repeat test. Hepatitis B spreads through blood, unprotected sex, from mother to baby at birth, and through shared needles, razors or toothbrushes. It does not spread through food, water, sharing utensils or casual contact. The test is routinely asked for in pregnancy, before surgery, endoscopy or dialysis, and for some jobs. It does not show whether you are protected by vaccination; that needs a separate antibody test (anti-HBs).

Price: the HBsAg Test (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) costs ₹280 at Pure Bliss (MRP ₹350), with the sample collected at our Action Area 2, New Town centre or at your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

HBsAg Test (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) — common questions

Booking, preparation and reporting for the HBsAg Test (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) at Action Area 2, New Town.

What does a reactive HBsAg result mean?

It suggests hepatitis B infection, but a rapid test must be confirmed. Your doctor will arrange a confirmatory test and other hepatitis B markers, and advise on next steps and on protecting your family.

Does this test show whether my vaccine worked?

No. Vaccine protection is checked with a different test, the hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs). Ask us or your doctor if that is what you need.

How soon after a possible exposure can I test?

HBsAg can take several weeks to become detectable. Speak to a doctor promptly after an exposure, as preventive treatment may be time-sensitive, and follow their advice on when to test.
